Under construction, an HO scale model railroad based on a rural branch somewhere in Kansas, during the 1960’s (only I know the exact date, but it is after 1963 when the grain hoppers appeared, though I have sold some of my late 1960′s loco’s as they are too new…..).
Santa Fe with a Rock Island interchange.
I have been modeling US railroads since 1999, having previously had a variety of European N and HOm scale layouts for the previous 25 years (and having been brought up with a model railroad in the house since I was very young) !
Development so far;-
Situated in the Guest Bedroom, along 3 of the walls, about 13′ x 14′.
I had the baseboards made for me, far better than I could do!
They stand 52″ from the ground, with up to another 1/2″ layer of foam on top, to allow for landscaping. Also gives some grades to add more interest.
Track is Peco Code 83, along with their Electrofrog turnouts, on the main, with Micro Engineering Code 70 / 55 track / turnouts for the spurs / sidings.
Control is DCC, via a Digitrax Super Chief.
Motive power is a mixture of Atlas, Athearn, Broadway Limited and P2K, some come with decoders fitted, others have had them installed. Also, some are sound fitted, but I turn down the volume so its fairly unobstrusive.
Progressing well, albeit in stops and starts! Scenery is complete on most of the layout. Now completed is the trackwork and ballasting along with some structures. Just leaves the quarry now, and the connecting board!
Also established an operating sequence / timetable, along with car cards / waybills, using a random integer generator to decide on the number of freight cars in the outbound service from the yard!
I’ll update information, photos and plans as I go along, however, progress has slowed down for various reasons, mainly work!!
Thank you for looking.
